The Hutt River Trail was a vision of the Hutt City Rotary Club:-
  • To utilise the Hutt River as an asset to both Hutt City and Upper Hutt City.
  • Provide a continuous off-road recreational trail along the length of the Hutt River.
  • Offer this natural environment as an alternative recreational area to that provided by the structured amenities of the cities.
Hutt City Rotary Club acted as the facilitator for a longstanding partnership between the two cities in the Hutt Valley, the Regional Council, and the combined Rotary Clubs of the valley.

The Hutt River Trail runs alongside the Hutt River from Petone foreshore to the Kaitoke Regional Park.

The trail is continuous for 32km on the eastern bank.

Throughout most of the distance, there are bridge to bridge loop circuits with the trail on both sides of the river.

Detailed maps are displayed at each road bridge parking area. These show the
Trail to the next bridge upstream and downstream –plus public transport locations.
