The bar is set high for Shapeshifter 2010!

The setting looks like the Hutt City Council Gardens, but this sculpture called "Balloon Flower (Magenta)" by US artist Jeff Koons was sold by Christies in London last week for a record 12.9 million pounds!
Values held up well in their annual post-war and contemporary art auction, as the super-wealthy continue to accumulate the most coveted artists at record or near record levels. I wonder if the club can arrange some tickets for these buyers to attend the next Shapeshifter?

This weeks speaker is Peter Meggison

Peter Meggison is General Manager of Business Banking at Kiwibank Ltd.
Peter joined Kiwibank in March 2004 with the objective of establishing a Business Banking division for the Bank. Over the next 12 months he formed and led a team that developed the systems, processes, policies and products for business customers. In March 2005 Kiwibank opened the doors for its first Business customers. This was a low key launch as they knew “demand would exceed supply”. This has basically been the situation over the last three years. Kiwibank now has in excess of 12,000 business customers providing total business of just on $2 billion. Currently they are taking on 300/350 new business customers per month. Kiwibank Business Banking has 17 specialist offices from Whangarei to Invercargill. Each of these offices is collocated with a Post shop and is staffed by experienced Business Managers ( all of whom have come across to Kiwibank from other Banks). Prior to joining Kiwibank Peter had 37 years experience with Bank of New Zealand in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The last 14 years were in Business Banking in Auckland.

President`s Corner

Well, I had to cancel the River Trail Walk on Sunday morning because of the shocking weather (2 Sundays in a row.)---it is rescheduled for the first Sunday in August (3rd).
On Friday morning Rosemarie Thomas together with a group of Rotarians & partners attended the end of Term assembly at Randwick School---what neat children they are. On behalf of Past President Allan I presented a cheque for $500 to purchase books for the school library. I also took the opportunity to open up a discussion with Head Teacher Miss Tyson regarding options and possible changes to the reading programme which were positively received. Thankyou all for the large turnout last week at Club Assembly---I was disappointed that time constraints did not allow very much feedback for Club members but there will be a further chance for your input at the first committee meetings.

Keep Warm,
Linton.

World President DK Lee evening,   NEXT Wednesday 16 th July

Our new world president will be in Wellington at the beginning of his year in office. The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson is holding a dinner to recognise this event, and YOU are invited. Our club president has been selected to play a major part in the evening and Linton has cancelled our regular Wednesday lunch meeting on the same day to encourage as many of us as possible to join him at this event. Rose Thomas is collecting numbers and co-ordinating tickets. Please let her know you are coming  by clicking  here.

Apologies

Our new club secretary Terry Bach will now be taking all luncheon apologies. If you are unable to make our regular Wednesday lunch meeting please phone Terry before 10am Wednesday on 586 0699, please leave a message if Terry is unavailable. We are still encountering far too many members not sending apologies in time to get correct meal numbers to our caterers so please do your best to contact Terry in time.
